Moved into an appartment, gave agent and bord gais plenty advance notice. On the move in day found the gas locked off after issue with agent and arrears for several apartments being managed.
Agent called bord gais and arranged reconnection a number of days later.
Now the agent is telling me there is a fee for the reconnection.
I don't believe I should have to cover that cost as it was disconnected over an issue with the management company.
Where do I stand from a consumer right perspective ?
Thanks, Sean.

Hi Seany,

Welcome to AAM.

I'm moving your thread to the Property Investment and Tenants' Rights Forum as you may get replies there also. A copy will remain in this forum for a month to ensure that any replies from the consumer rights perspective can be provided also.

SeanC. I am speaking as a Landlord and I can assure you that you do not have to pay for the connection. It is up to the Agent/Landlord to sort it out with whoever caused the problem.
I would write to the agent and email him/her keeping a copy of the correspondence and inform them in no uncertain terms that I was not paying.
Have you a way of contacting the landlord?.

I'm also a landlord and this fee is not yours. They are chancing it with you.

Im definitely with Dermot and Bronte on this one.

You are not responsible for any argument between the Management company and the landlord, his agent or any previous tenant.

Your rented property MUST come with the associated utilities connected and working. The only thing required is that (usually) the utilities are put in your name either by you or the landlord/agent looks after the procedures.
