Garden Gate posts/driveway

Hi

Am thinking about removing Garden Gateposts and re-doing the driveway.

Does anyone know if you require planning permission to remove gateposts/wall at the front of the house? (effectively opening up the driveway)

Has anyone done this before and if so what barriers did you find with the planning office?

Im based in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Co co area

We were thinking of doing the same thing recently, after doing a bit of research online I came across the following:

"Permission is always required to if you wish to widen or create new access to the public road."

We decided to just get the driveway done and leave the gates and entrance alone. Partly for financial reasons but partly because we may need to get planning permission approved. From what I gather, planning permission can take a lot of time and expense.
