Anyone have any experience of applying for Garda Clearance in order to work in area of special needs individuals ?
I know it takes 4 months but is the certificate sent to you or to the organisation you will be working with ?

Its also needed for adoptions etc. I know that we had to get one when we were hosts for the Special Olympics a few years ago and it was sent directly to ourselves.

Hi Sandrabing, if the organisation requests it, its sent to them. In my exp, I got mine back in 4 weeks. However if you have any oversea's addresses it can delay the process.

Has to go to Garda HQ in Poenix Park. If you know any Guards they maybe able to push this through alot quicker. Always good to know a guard......

Actually it goes to Garda Vetting office in Thurles, Co.Tipperary. It doesnt really matter who you know in the guards there is only about 12 people who work in this dept for the whole country hence the 4 month wait at the moment.

I shouldn't complain at least I am not waiting for a driving test :D

It goes to the organisation, although you have a right to see it. It is not Garda clearance as such, just a list of your convictions, whether they be relevant to the job you have applied for or not.

Does anyone know if you are garda checked/background checked for a job in the public service? Just wondering what checks are done before you take up employment with them, especially for working in areas where there is sensitive information?
