Furniture Shopping - Worth going to Northern Ireland?

I am looking to buy a fair bit of furniture, couches, dining table & chairs, hall unit, mirrors, light fittings, etc. and am wondering if anybody has gone North and made any savings. I am in Dublin and find the likes of Reids (€75 delivery?), Jim Langans, Diamond Furniture, etc quite expensive for what you get.

I searched the previous posts and note some people went to Brodericks near Gort, so may travel there, am wondering if the quality there is still ok but am also considering going north. Will also try the Beechmount Industrial Estate in Navan, but remember thinking the last time I was there that prices there are now similar to Dublin. I also tried to find the place recommened here out the back of Maynooth/Kilcock, but drove around and could not find it.

Any recommendations, either north or south?

Ten and 20 years ago there was definite savings to be had up north , do not know about the furniture prices now.

There is a good range in belfast - all furniture stores are on boucher road so they are all together. You can get more unusual stuff. I bought from www.treatyourhome.com and www.shopdekko.com

Just wondering wher treat your home is located. I've not seen it on the Boucher Rd.

Their website gives the impression that they're really an online store although they do talk about a showroom, but they don't seem to give any details of exactly where it might be... You could e-mail info@treatyourhome.com to enquire...

Why don't you go up - make a day trip of it and do something else enjoyable while there. Then it may not feel like a day wasted. I've personally always found it very hard to judge stuff like furniture from pictures on the internet. I've done this when i've travelled to other towns on the intention of checking out a particular store etc - usually taken a friend and have an enjoyable time checking out other places, stopping at coffee shops etc seeing places i won't have visited otherwise. - Nearly always come away with more than i planned and often not from the shop i went there to visit. Becomes day out rather than a chore.

Fordes furniture, the place in the back of kilcock/maynooth is worth persisting with, he is pretty good value, but fairly traditional in taste. I looked at furniture shops in the North, didn't find them cheaper and choice wasn't great. I ended up ,after going all over the country buying in Arnotts after christmas sale. Have also bought good value modern stuff in Straffan Antiques (they sell new and antique furniture) at Barberstown cross, near maynooth.
