Ive looked a couple of websites of stores that have outlets in NI as well as ROI and not surprisingly the same product is far cheaper up north. I was thinking of hiring a van and making a trip up, has anyone done this and if so can they recommend a good furniture store? (im looking for a 3 +1+1 black leather sofa & one double bed.
 
Thanks. I looked at Ikea alright and will probably go there for other things but I thought the furniture was a bit too modern for the decor in my house. I have had a look at Land of Leather who seem to be in belfast so might try them.

Id be interested to hear if anyone knows of any other big furniture store in belfast that they have used.
 
Hi Lanigano can't offer much advice other tan I intend to make the trip myself very soon. The Sofa workshop will be my port of call. I used to live in UK and we also bought our sofas from them and I loved them. They have a sale on now so good reductions. They make to order though so no stock ie no need for a van.
Argos UK is good as you reserve online.........my tv will be much cheaper also :)
 
The only difficulty with either Argos or Land of Leather is that they don't always keep larger furniture items in stock - and Argos NI won't deliver to ROI (don't know about LoLeather).
 
I'm looking for bedroom furniture at the moment. I've picked out two sets that I like. One was in Harvey Normans but I felt that the price was OTT and when I checked it on UK websites, the price difference was €899 to £599. Besides, we did buy other furniture last week from Mr. Harvey and it has not been a totally happy experience - so no to that idea.

Also looked at an oak bed, lockers, chest and mattress - total price in shop sale €2327 in Dundalk, same item up north is £1600. See www.d2dfurniture.co.uk They will deliver to the south for €15.
I'm very torn here. We don't believe in handing over our euros across the border and would usually shop in our local towns (Harvey Norman was an exception!) and we believe that the VAT we pay should enter our own exchequer, but its soooooooo much money :eek:

The other side of that coin is that if you continue to let companies here in the south rip you off then nothing will change. A kick in the nuts for Mr Lenihan and all the rip-off merchants here now will do us all good in the long term.
 
Thanks for those ideas, I will check them out. I am going to go into Land of Leather shop (ROI) tomorrow and pick out sofa. Once I have decided I am going to call Land of Leather in Belfast and order it telling them that I will collect it myself if they give me a week or so notice before it arrives into stock. I will let you know how I get on.
