Frustration with DCA

Hi all,

I am at my wits end with the HSE over my sons Domiciliary Care Allowance application. We spent a year undergoing assessments to get my son's diagnosis of Autism. On every HSE assessment it clearly states we should apply for DCA. I submitted the application last August (2008) and in February we were called for his DCA assessment. Every bit of documention we had was brought the the assessment and the Medical Officer stated that a decision would be made at the end of February. I have spent many man hours chasing up on the application only to be told the medical officer still has the file, the medical officer is on sick leave and most recently the medical officer is off until the end of April.

Out of sheer frustration i contacted a number of TD's who i believe have made contact with the relevant people in the HSE. I am relying heavily on the decision for this allowance as i am trying to source an ABA tutor to do sessions with my son. He's nearly 5 and badly needs some additional tutorage.

My question is this: How long does a decision take to come through on the DCA. I thought the waiting time to get an assessment was very long but i really find this ridiculous now.... When i asked the girl in the DCA section this question her reply was "It takes as long as it takes"....:mad:

Thanks for reading!
