Hi,
Wonder if anyone can help, was on JS benefit for 6 months - have just been signed off sick from doc, dropped cert around to SW today, where I was advised to stay on JS because my illness benefit claim could take a while BUT I did not want to do this, I wont be fit for work for a few weeks, therefore I was worried they would come looking to see proof that I have been seeking work, which I have been up until last week, but now I am signed off sick, I wont be for a few weeks - anyway I gave the cert to the man in SW and he told me when I get my final cert off the doc to bring it in then I will have to reapply for JS benefit all over again... I found this baffling, as I have been on it or 6 months, surely this is making more work for themselves, especially in the current climate!

So when I got home I rang the main SW offices in dublin and asked the very helpful girl on the phone if it were true that I would have to reapply for JS benefit all over again and she said "no, you wont you will just have to fill in a very brief from"

Now I am confused! Which is true??
Do u have to go through the whole application process when u come off illness and back on JS??

Thanks in advance

When you get your final cert for illness benefit, you will have to make a repeat claim for jobseeker's benefit, but it shouldn't be as long as the initial claim process - perhaps this is what both offices meant and they were right in their own way!

gipimann, thank you so much for your reply! its all so confusing (well in my eyes anyway) thank u
