Fridge shelf

The glass one just broke. where do I start looking for another.

Its a built in fridge of no obvious brand (never ever buying unbranded white goods) which I inherited when we bought the house.

Is it absolutely necessary to have a glass one there? Can i just put in another regular shelf? Are these these things of a standard size?

Off to make a very strange dinner with stuff that won't fit in my 2 shelf fridge!!!!!
 
You could just take measurments and get a glass shop to make up a shelf for you.

They should be able to round the edges for safety as well.
 
Have a look at the fridges left for recycling at your local WEEE or recycling depot. Bring the measurements of your shelf and be prepared to give anything you find a good scrub!

Thats not a bad idea!!!
 
You'ld need to make sure that it's toughened glass if you go to a glass shop.
 
If there was a plastic edging on the old shelf bring it to the 'Glass Shop' and they may be able to glue it on to the new glass. It will also confirm the proper size.
 
No edging on it. Does anyone know why its a glass shelf? Would it be ok to just get a wire one to replace?

This is a good option. I got a cutlery basket for my sisiter's diswasher in my local WEEE recycling depot.

I think the point of the glass is to block air circulation and have two 'zones' in the fridge, one colder than the other. It also stops drips from meat etc. from going into the salad drawer.

I knew about the meat thing but I never put veg that won't be cooked in there and all meat is in zip lock bags. Zones, hmmmmm. Never thought of that. I'll see how it goes wrt my veg getting frozen. Wonder if it would put too much pressure on the motor?
I want to move/remove the units in my kitchen to make more room for the table. This involves moving the fridge so its been scheduled for when the fridge eventually dies. Might have to get planning..
 
I specifically bought a fridge with glass shelves cos I was frustrated by items falling over cos they werent sitting straight on the wire shelves.
