Found an apt I would like to rent: they are looking for €750/mth Is that reasonable?

I found a nice apartment I like, and thinking about moving out of home now that prices are a little more affordable. The estate agent is looking for €750 per month.

Is it normal to offer less than this? how much less?, I was told by a colleague 20% less than the asking price, or is that plain stupid.

The apartment has been available for at least 3 weeks, that I am aware of.

Thanks in advance

Re: renting advice

3 weeks is not a very long time for a place to be vacant.

I would assume 750 would be about the norm depending on the location, but you should try and haggle anyway - all they can say is NO and if they do say no - just leave you number and tell them to contact you if they change their mind and cannot get anyone else in.

Re: renting advice

if he said €1000 would you still have offered 20% less?
A good tip is to check daft.ie and see whether there are many other properties in the area and what they're looking for

What they're looking for and what they ultimately rent for could be quite different. I'd certainly be offering at least 10% less than the asking price, 20% might be stretching it though.
