So my partner and I got married last year and I was on revenue online claiming back tax credits etc... And I really hadn't a clue what I was doing and submitted a few p12 forms and then realised that I wasn't suppose to as my husband is only ina normal paye job.what happens now? Will I now have to do this every year ?

Will our personal savings be looked into and taxed?? I really have no idea about this kind of stuff at all :(

DIRT tax is taken at source from your personal savings so nothing to worry about.

Oh thank you very much for your reply :)
What will they do with the info? Should I ring and explain it was sent in by mistake incase they are wondering why I submitted them or will it not matter?

P12 is an annual Income Tax return for people whose primary source of income is PAYE income. If you are in receipt of income apart from that earned and taxed as an employee you have an obligation to declare this on P12. Examples are rental income, dividends, pensions, Capital Gains through the sale of property other than your PPR, etc.

That's a Form 12 (no P), and I don't see how the OP can have submitted "a few" of them if they only married last year, or indeed why it would be wrong, as that's the correct form for a PAYE employee to submit a return.

There's also a facility on PAYEanytime to claim credits and request a P21 balancing statement.

Now the OP is talking about one or the other of these, but it's not clear which.

It there was an option somewhere on the site to submit 3 p12 forms online and the status beside them was "outstanding" I filled them in and submitted and then realised I did not need to do so at all. I'm sure it will be ok tho. They prob just going to be wondering why I was submitting these for no reason.

That's Form 12. There's no P. It's very confusing, because there is a whole raft of forms that do have a P before the number.

You are correct, sorry about the mix up and I have edited the title now :)

Still not sure if it's a problem now that I've filled in this form that o actually wasn't suppose to. What do they do with it once it's submitted?

Why do you want to submit 3?

If you made an error, you can adjust it. Your best bet is to ring the Revenue and talk it through with someone there. They will be able to give you guidance. Or drop them an email. I've always found them fine to deal with. No need to worry.

Thanks a mill I rang them and they said it all seems ok once the info was correct then there should be no prob and that there was a glitch in the online site that was asking people to submit this form that didn't have too and that if it happens s again to just ignore it unless we actually receive forms in the post :)

Good stuff. See, they're not that bad! ;)

I still get nervous when I get a letter with that harp on it though!!

The most common use of Form 12 has been for people renting properties either by themselves or through AirBnB. It also doesn't mean you owe money, sometimes can result in a refund!
