Form 11 - what if you genuinely don't know if you will have self employed income this

I have done some very small pieces of additional work on top of 9-5 PAYE and fill out form 11 for these.

I have done nothing this year but have been chatting to people about a substantial piece nearer the end of the year in to next year. I genuinely don't know if this will happen for another week or two.

What should I do re preliminary tax. Paying 100% of last years would be a bit as wife's (PAYE) employer messed her figures up so that has come in to assessment.

My inclination is to say 0 but I've heard tales about penalties and interest for under declaration, i.e. if additional work transpires

Any views

There is no penalty for not paying Preliminary Tax on time.

The only issue is 1% interest per month.

You should be able to defer the work until 2014 if it's not confirmed by 14 November.
