Footpath cost

Hi,
We just started an extension this week and hadn't specified a footpath around it. But on Tuesday, while I was at work, the builder asked my wife if she'd like one and she agreed . The path is 13m long and he told her it would cost E700. This works out at over E50 per metre. Does this sound fair?
For the record he has it finished now - took 2 of them a day and a half to complete. We're on a tight budget with the job and this is something I could have done myself on a weekend.

Depending on the construction of the path the price may or may not be fair. BUT was the price agreed with your wife prior to the job being done or not. If it was you will have problems if you don't pay, particularly as the extension has just started.
I have to say I'm a bit surprised that the footpath is laid at the start of the job. Or am I misunderstanding your post?

+1 what BillK has asked.

Shouldn't be in until the main work is above ground at the earliest.
The finished surface should be protected from impacts.
Useful for safety purposes when working at heights.
Has he positioned the rainwater gullies in it yet?

ONQ.

the price is about right provided the depth is standard and correct and the width is about 1metre, yes you could have done this yourself on a weekend, are all the ground works done pipes drains cables or is the builder goin to have to lift this path again to do the work and double down on the labour charges for the job,
