Hi
Starting to build extension on house that involves a kitchen extension. The rear wall of the kitchen is going to be all glass from floor to ceiling. Was thinking of getting the fold back doors instead of the norm pation doors. Anyone get these doors installed and what do they think of them?

The name that you are looking for is bi-folding doors - lots about them here on other threads.

Am I allowed mention particular names? We got bi folding doors in a place called H&F Windows in Banagher Co Offaly. Dont know where you are or if they would go to you but they did a good job on our ones.

Thanks for the replys.
Fnannery I am in Dublin. How are the doors, are they worth the expense or where they expensive? Any info appreciated

We have patio doors which fold back onto fixed panes of glass. Each door is 800mm and folds back onto a fixed pane of 800 metre creating a open area of 1.6 metres if this make sense. We asked the window suppliers to supply the doors without the safety mechanism that stops them from opening beyond 90 degrees and then the builder made a small hinge mechanism which means the doors can be attached to the outside wall when the are folded back. A lot cheaper and simpler than the bifold doors. I would assume that the doors could be made to any width within reason provided they had a fixed pane of similar size to fold back on to.

Did you mean concertina doors? I've seen 6m span in dublin, decent around 5K that size. Smaller are cheaper.

lookup the vu fold door at Applications.ie and if your opening is suitable you may save some money instead of getting a custom one made.

hi fnannery,

We're looking for bifold/concertina for double internal doors - not patio/glass. Do you know if H&F Windows do these ? Do you have contact details for H&F ?

Many Thanks
James

hi ennisjim
got my bifold doors from viking windows in rathcoole they cost around 13000 inc vat
but some screws are missing and i cant get them back, now that they have been paid to finish off.so i cant recommend them.just to let you know.

keep searching

I got a 13ft span of bifold doors & 2 matching backdoors from Futurefold (www.futurefold.com) and they are great. The guys are really helpful too and I was really impressed with them. Cost around 7-8k for the bifold. The other doors pushed the price up so not sure of the exact amount. They do internal ones too. (no affiliation with the company)

Hi
Two months ago I purchased two sets of vu-fold doors, one set were 6ft the other were 16ft. I scanned Ireland for the larger set, saw them at the self build show in Belfast and liked them. No one in Ireland sold them, but did find a company www.doorways.co.uk in the north. Cost st1180 and st4425 plus vat. 150 delivery. Arrived on pallet. My carpenter and his mate fitted them both in two days. Great job, Doorways easy to deal with and feel I have a unique feature at a reasonable price.

Hi,
Close to ordering a set of vu-fold triple doors - from bghome. Just wondering if anyone has them and would you recommend?

If anyone in Viking happensto be looking on this site maybe you could get onto anthony1967 and finish the job you were paid for!

(possible dubious last post from Iclady - first time poster with a recommendation for a company!!)

Hadn't noticed that warning icon before. My conscience will be at me now for getting someone banned - what if I am just an old cynic and she is indeed a very happy customer??!! I'm in turmoil...
