Had a look at previous queries about fogged up double glazed units but they are about 3 years old and don't anwer my query.

Have fogged up double glazed sliding patio door and wonder if any glazier out that knows if the glass can be replaced. some years ago I got some fogged up windows repaired -didn't need to buy the actual units - just replace the glass. Can't remember the company that did the work though! Wondering if the same can be done with a patio door? Anyone know?

Yes the D/G unit (Glass) can be changed.

Pratically all companies dealing with D/G can do this for you, call a few local ones for a quote to compare.

Thanks for that Sparkrite. So far all have said the unit itself has to be replace yet I can get the glass alone replaced in the windows!! Will keep trying.

I replaced a dg few years back. The window supplier said something about a 10 yr guarantee? Unfortunately mine was older. There is a code written in the frame that holds the dg together so you might check with supplier on guarantee if the number exists and if you know they are not that old... I'm not certain on the 10yrs but worth checking anyway

In older DG units the seals would breakdown allowing air to escape into the vacumn, drawing moisture in which causes condensation leading to the fogging.

They used to be guaranteed for 10 years against the seal deteoriating.

Seals are better made now and your units should last longer that 10 years, all to do with exposure and siting. There should be no issue whatsoever to replace any glazing.

Paddylast, I am a little confused, you say you didnt have to replace the units just the glass (?) I presume by 'units' you refer to the actual patio doors? DG is factory sealed and as such simply replacing a glass pane will not sort your problem. Full replacement of the glass unit should be easily done. Just note in a patio door the glass (if full height) needs to be toughened glass which is quite a bit more expensive than regular glazing units.
