Floor for hall

I know this is a bit vague but suddenly it appears I need to choose flooring for hall and porch of my 1970s house. Almost can't bear the though of going researching wood options. I like the idea of tiles ebcause they would be harder wearing but can't see any that grab me. My taste is simple and functional. Any inspiration?

I like the idea of tiles in the hall too. You could go for quite a dramatic blak border, with black and white diamond pattern down the middle. It's quite classic, might not suit your house, suits a narrower hall with higher ceilings probably. There's great deals on tiles if you#re prepared to do the rounds of the tile shops.

If there's a tile wharehouse near you it might be worth checking them out. They have a good quality porcelain at the moment for less than €28 per yard. It's pre sealed too so no maintenance for you.

It will be costly to go this route between tiles flexible adhesive and grout and the labour but it will last forever once done right.

just added on a porch to the front of my place and fancied terracota tiles, hubby wasn't keen prefering charcoal grey slate look. So glad that he won the arguement...they look fabulous. Dramatic and moody but every colour compliments them. If you have a wider hall you could go for a dark border and light inner, to visually reduce the width...or the other way round to make it look wider.

Neighbour has tiles that are a cobble look, various sizes of rectangles and small squares, very effective too if a border is not an option due to the price.
