I have a guy putting in paths and sewer pipes outside my new build house at the moment.
I returned to the house on Wednesday evening to find the upstairs floors under 3 inches of water and the water and started pouring over onto floor downstairs
It took 4 hours and 3 people to get all the water out of the house running with buckets and sweeping the water out. Finally got a wet n dry hoover to pick up the remaining droplets on the floor.
Currently the floors are dry but the walls have damp patches especially in the rooms under the hotpress where the water entered the house.
When I checked with the pathman, he said he had connected up the mains water pipe to the inlet pipe into the house without closing off the valve. My plumber told me, it is the plumbers job to connect up the water pipes.
I now have to hire a humidifier to dry out the walls.. Hopefully there is no permanant damage done to the house. Luckily it was caught on the day it happened otherwise the ceilings could have collapse.
What cover / insurance claim if any do I have against the pathman if I discover there is more damage than I currently see ?
This has also delayed laying of tiles / wooden floors due to moisture in house
