Nail on the head. The money that was handed over for land alone was too great for common sense to stand in the way. I worked on a large residential development in north dublin that suffered from flooding before we'd even finished. A large land bank that used to soak up a huge amount of rain water and gradually release it in to the sea. As soon as we had taken off the topsoil and put in an efficient drainage system, ten new houses and twenty homes were flooded on our development. An existing neighbouring estate was badly affected too.
The recent trend of digging up front gardens to make a big driveway for the other two cars in each home these days has also caused havoc.
