Fired after handing notice in?

A question came up in work that we didnt know the answer to. If somebody has handed their notice in (4 weeks notice period for example) is it possible to fire them eg if they were being obstructive, rude etc within that 4 week period?

Our company doesnt give character references as such, more like x worked here from this date to that date. The only clue you might get to give you an idea of the candidates performance from this reference is a line that says " x resigned their position of his/her own volition".

I'm wondering if the company would now be legally able to say " x's employment was terminated ....etc" even though you had already resigned.

Thanks

You can still be fired. You have only handed in notice of your intention to leave. You are employed by the company up to the day you leave and so are still tied to the same code of conduct, terms of employment etc
