got a new philips 42" a couple of months back. was amazed to see it came with a 2 pin figer of 8 power lead. to plug it in i had to use a pencil to press down the 3 pin if you know what I mean.

anyway I am not happy with this so I am going to get a 3 pin figure of 8 power lead. Maplins do them. is there anything I should be looking out for in terms of fuse in the plug etc??

In fuse terms - yes, you should make sure that the fuse is rated the same as the original one or according to the rating plate on the back of the TV.

I understood that all electrical equipment had to be supplied with an appropriate plug for the last couple of years - some EU saftey regulation. Did you buy this from one of the European electrical websites or did you buy it locally ?

Much electrical equipment now comes with a two pin plug, but with a 3 pin adapter that can be screwed over it. This means that manufacturers and distributors can just have the one set of cables and accessories for all EU regions. It is possible that your TV shipped with one of these and you didn't notice.

One of the things Mary Harney implemented in pre-Health days was a piece of legislation that said all importers / suppliers of electrical equipment must supply a suitable electrical lead with a moulded-on 3-pin 13-amp plug.

Anyone not doing that (and I know from experience that komplett supply 2-pin plugs) is in breach of regulations.
