We are going to Budapest for five nights towards end of September. We havent been before.

Which is the best part to stay in for a few days - in the Buda or the Pest side ? We just want to do the usual touristy things and go to nice restaurants and coffee shops whilst we are there.

I would be happy for any recommendations on hotels either!
thanks

We stayed on the Pest(pronounced Pesht) side. That's the same side as the iconic Parliament Building. Buda side has the height and a Palace and park, though we didn't visit it. We stayed in a cheap hotel, City Hotel Ring. It was better than it looked. We walked the city and paid to visit the Dohany Synagogue(expensive), our first Synagogue, very interesting and the 'shoes along the Danube' monument to the murdered (by pro Nazi militia during WWII) and the Columbo statue was very near our hotel (Google it). We'd just disembarked from a river cruise so didn't book one of the many River cruises with dinner that might be nice. There's a famous covered market Nagycsarnok, and a futuristic looking building nearby, The Balna or 'Whale' which was used as the facade of the NASA building in 'The Martian'. Lovely city walkable. Would go back.

Recommend a visit to the renowned baths on the Buda side. I'd stay in Buda maybe 15 minutes north of the baths which we found to be a good area. Some great restaurants and cocktail bars in the area and to boot prices are very very reasonable.

That's actually one of the best things about budapest the relatively cheap prices in bars and restaurants although there is very high inflation in Hungary now, it was noticeable how much prices had increased compared to only a year ago
