I am just fed of BT thanks to their over-charging billing system.

Can anybody suggest reasonable telecom/broadband provider which can be half decent as BT?

HI knockers,

After deasling with those NTL lunatics, I switched to Irishbroadband and think they are very good.

I have been taken to the cleaners by Eircom (line rental) and BT for calls for last 4 years or so and lastmonth changed over to Perlico.

Had to sign a 12 month contract which I was not happy about but my first bill is half of what the others were. It was €53 for one month including rental which is good compared to €160 from BT and €42 or so from Eircom every two months... either way a heck of a saving. I have the package that includes free national and local calls and the mobile package.

My work requires me to use the phone a lot...

hope that helps.

BT still best package around IMO if you can live with their accounts. Get yourself off direct debit if youre not already. I was overbilled on my first 3 bills with them, but depite me raising the issue each time it kept occurring.
They refused to take me off DD until I threatend legal action as what they were doing was tantamount to theft. DD was stopped immediately.

Overcharging still occurrs but I only pay what I know I owe. I get some fun every few months when their not so nice accounts team ring me for missed payments and I get to get them to prove how my missing payment isnt a missing payment at all.

I will say I was cut off once because they lost a payment I had sent them through online banking, but I got 3 months free when I proved I had sent them the payment and it was them who had lost it.

I was thinking of getting BT, are they ok other than the billing issues? Not going direct debit seems to be around this as suggested by car.

Is their wireless ok? (I presume thats what their modem at €45 does) Their cheapest phone/bb offering at €39 seems good value compared to eircom at €50.99

I would have no problems in recommending their service. I did have a billing issue when at first after relocating, I found the CEO's e-mail address somewhere and e-mailed him saying that I had been so nice as to give them direct access to my account that could they please debit the correct amount or I was cancelling the direct debit and not paying until it was sorted out. All sorted in a couple of days.

Is their wireless ok?

If you meant the wireless network provided by the device they provide, then I would suggest that this should not be a deciding factor. You can always replace the modem with another one if you choose, as I have done. That said the BT Voyager devices they supply are OK, but need a firmware update to resolve some issues with the DSL connection being dropped.

So would I be better not paying for the one at €45 that they are offering?

Is so where do I get altenatives and what am I looking for?(In case the helpfull sales assistant is as clueless as me) An indication of the price range of these gizmos would be great

Get the one that they provide and only consider changing if it proves problematic. The one they provide will suffice for most users.

I have BT BB and Line Rental Bundle and find the serivce excellent. In the beginning I paid close attention to my bills and queried them to begin with. After a while I stopped. When I moved house I again took BT but since have not once queried a bill. To be honest I barely look at them except for the bottom line. What issues specifically have people found and what advice can you give to check for problems. If I have some guidance I will make it my business to go back through my bills and review them for problems. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks Lads, I have decided to switched to Smart Telecom for a moment now. Hope I would be at peace with customer service and billing with Smart. They have very good offer on their website at the moment if anybody thinking of switching.

Cheers
