External Insulation

We need to get a few quotes to externally insulate our house. I've got a number for Xsulation and will ring them but I don't have the name or number of any other company. Has anyone in Cork area externally insulated their house? Who did the job? Would you recommend them? Did you get more than one quote? Were they all around the same? I notice from AAM posts that it's a very expensive way to insulate a house but it seems very effective. Thanks in advance.

It seems to be a relatively new idea in this country, can't say I've heard of anyone here doing it but maybe try ringing a few of the Builder's Providers. Cork Builders Providers, Chadwicke's, Brooks Haughton would be some of the main guys.

Thanks Baldyman. I actually passed a house recently that was being done but the workers had left for the day. It's fixed to the wall in pink (!!!) sheets and it's then plastered over etc. I think it was 70mm thick by the look of it and looked like it would turn out a fine job.
We have cavity block walls and one major concern I have about it is that the heat would travel up quickly through the cavity blocks and escape through the top row of them. I wonder could the top row of blocks be capped in some way with insulation to prevent this?

Presumably you would be drylining the walls inside too which would do a lot to combat this. Are you doing a comprehensive renovation? If so, are you installing underfloor heating? Even in a new build one doesn't insulate the top of the wall, if I'm understanding you correctly, as the roof has to rest on a structurally sound element, e.g. timber or concrete. Give me a few more details about what you're actually doing.
