Extended notice for redundancy

Hello
Our company was restructured recently. A handful of us have been made redundant. My contract states that there is a period of 2 months for notice. We have been asked to stay with the company until September. We were told that if we do not stay until that time, our employer may or may noy pay out the redundancy. Is the company within its rights to do that even though our contracts show a notice period of 2 months?
