Expulsion From Pension Scheme

I work for a credit union and have just learned that my employer, a credit union, is going to be expelled from the League (of Credit Unions). One of the results of this expulsion is that staff members employed by the Credit Unions which are being expelled will in turn be expelled from the League Pension Scheme. The League is the Principal Employer designated in the scheme. Have I any way of stopping this happening? I have no dispute with anyone and do not want to be caught in the middle of this dispute. Can I continue to pay my pension. Can I be expelled like this? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I guess the first step would be to ask your employer what their plans are? Are they arranging a comparable pension scheme? Are they taking steps to protect your contributions to date?

Is a defined-benefit or defined-contribution scheme? Does the employer contribute also?

Contact the Manager or the Greystones Credit Union. I think he went to the High Court this week to stop the League doing this.

This is one which all those employed by CUDA credit unions need to work together on.

They don't have a plan. It is a defined Benefit Scheme. They contribute and I contribute. We are not members of a trade union. Nobody seems to know what to do.

Try contacting the . They may be able to offer you advice. They're a State body, so their service is free to the user.

I guess staff need to start kicking up a big fuss to management to ensure this starts getting attention. Do you have enough staff members (and families) to call an EGM?

We are finding it very difficult to obtain information from the trustees. Our employer is doing all they can but they are running up against a stone wall also. Apparently the rules of the scheme are critical. Can anyone recommend a good specialist in this area?

Have you tried contact the Pensions Board, as recommended above?
