Expensive plumber?

We recently had a plumber in to install a 1m double rad. and plumb a small sink into a kitchen-type unit. He charged us €400 (which included cost of rad but we bought the sink, tap and waste ourselves). He wanted cash payment (no bill/receipt). We're happy enough with the work he did but aren't sure whether to have him back in future because it seems rather a lot of money for a few hours work.

What does anyone here think?

how long did he take? the rad would have been c 100e? Ive had to get a plumber to do several jobs for me over last 2-3 years, if the work was 4-5 hours then the price is about right imo.

Use www.tradesmen.ie to get comparative quotes going forward but my advice would be if you have a plumber that you know is reliable and does good work, hold on to him.

Did you get a quote from him first? He supplied radiator. Did he supply valves for rad? Any other fittings or pipe? How long exactly was he there for?. Most guys will charge a full day even if they finish a bit early.

You could probably have got it cheaper but if your happy with him I probably would pay him a bit more. Be sure and get quotes for jobs in the future.

There was no time to get a quote as we needed someone quickly and our kitchen fitter uses this guy. He was here around 5 1/2 hours and did supply thermostatic valve and some piping, so it sounds like the charge was reasonable after all. I guess we'll use him again but get a quote first next time.

Thanks guys.
