On Thursday night the power went in my brothers Estate, they went out to check had other houses power etc.Was everyone affected and when they realised all the estate was out they returned to the house. After a while the power came back on but there was a flash in the sitting room and a smell of burning-their TV had been damaged. Now it won't even power up etc.Do the ESB have any responsibility for this. They are checking whether their insurance will cover it or not but the insurance company are asking a lot about the power outage etc.Anyone any similar experiences?

I'm not sure of the reponsibilities but try canvassing the neighbours and check for other damage in the estate then collectively go to the ESB to make a claim. You might find some useful info here.

does your brother live in Laois by any chance ?? We had an outage on thursday night and my mother in law went around the house plugging everything out in case that happened when the power came back.

ESB changed their responsibilities a few years ago and they will not accept responsibility for a Power Surge. All they will tell you is that you should install a surge breaker. If you check their website it will explain their policy. On the other hand, most Household Insurance Policies cover for this type of think but the excess comes into play.

Yes it was in Laois alright, looks like the insurance is going to give some money towards it.Although at first they only offered 200 Euro, because "you can buy them new for 250 in Komplett".When my brother asked him where on the site he told him search for CRT which he did and the cheapset was 569Euro.Then he upped the offer by 100Euro!
