A relation is currently on maternity leave - benefit due to end Mid Nov. She was informally told this week that she will be made redundant on her return date.
She is currently job hunting and in theory could get a new position before that date. Is it a big deal not staying out of work for the full 26 weeks paid maternity benefit if the "ideal" position was offered? I assume all that is required is a call to Social Welfare?
Is there a redundancy payment due from the current job? Taking up a new job before the date of redundancy given might jeopardise any monies due? I have no idea, just something else to consider.
There would be monies due. It may be possible that Redundancy date could be brought forward if maternity leave end date is brought forward. My friend's colleagues were let go this week - only reason friend's end date is delayed is to coincide with official end of her maternity leave. You can't be made redundant while on ML.
