Hello,
Over the last 3 months, I have been challenging my boss over how my role has developed over the last 2 years into a role at a higher level. Whilst I have been successful in obtaining a token payrise in recognition of this becuase my boss has openly admitted that my current title does not reflect my role, he has been reluctant to officially reassess my job title accordingly, stating that the business is in transition (business in final stages of being sold), there is a pay freeze across the entire company, current economic climate etc.
Since obtaining the payrise and having been informed that my role would not be reviewed, I have found out I am pregnant. Over a casual conversation with my boss today about the recruitment process for my role, he mentioned that they would probably look to recruit a replacement at the higher level I think my role now is.
Can the company do this? I am obviously a little put out to say the least, having been told my role would not be reviewed, to find out they will pay somebody else more money to do my job while I am gone!
If the above does happen, is this likely to work in favour of me getting my role reviewed? up until now my conversations have all been with my line manager - I have not spoken directly with HR which I am now considering.
Advice much appreciated!
Thanks
