Employee Handbook

Just wondering if an employer must provide an employee with a handbook of sorts?

AFAIK, the only legal requirement is for an employer to provide a statement of terms of employment, however some employer's provide a handbook where they feel that certain topics are not covered in enough detail on the statement of terms of employment.
