Hi,
I am self employed. I was abroad for last few years ,so last year was my first tax return. I got married in 2003, so I sent in a form last year to say we were to be jointly accessed. After i mailed the form, and psoted my tax returns I received a letter in the post regarding emoluments.
Self 22662
Spuse 2060.

TAX at 20% 42882. (i havent the letter in front of me right now!)

Enclosed was a cheque for overpayment of tax!!!. Great isnt it :)

Can anyone explain what emoluments mean. Are these entitlements back dated since we got married?

I don't know what you mean. Emoluments are simply earnings.

It's impossible to tell what the refund was all about without more detailed information about your earnings and situation in the relevant years. Your best bet is probably to contact Revenue for an explanation.
