electricity - socket safe?

Hello -
Hoping someone can give me advice - I've just had new kitchen put in and the electrician has put the socket for the washing machine and dishwasher directly under the sink. It looks nicely finished but I'm still worried that's it's there, I feel it's dangerous. He said it's ok because if there's any problem, the electricity will cut off. He said it's normal to put it there. Is that true? What if there's a leak from the sink/sink waste pipe? He's acting like I'm worrying over nothing - and maybe I am. All advice gratefully received! Thanks folks.

yes its quite normal to put the sockets in the sink press as the socket and plug will keep the appliance out rom the wall also its easier for acessing them

If the socket gets wet the ELCB (?) system will turn it off instantly at the fuseboard.

If you had a leak the bigger problem is the carcass of the kitchen units would rot

Thanks to everyone who replied. I'm now reassured.

I had a socket for a dishwasher under the kitchen worktop in one of the presses for 14 years no problems :)

I think you will be OK.
