Now that a barrel of oil is almost half of its peak price of $147 can consumers expect to see a reduction in their electricity bills any time soon?

Oh Yes !

Just as soon as you see three pigs fly past

And what price after the Minister for light bulbs gets his carbon tax ?

Meanwhile, on another part of the planet ( not far from here )

"My marginal cost of electricity is 10.206p/kWh, gas 2.9127p/kWh* but as I both cook and heat with gas I can regard gas used for cooking in winter as effectively free because it replaces heating gas."

Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electricity_Supply_Board

I was surprised today to read that quite a bit of our electricity is powered by oil (the bigger stations like Poolbeg, Tarbert, Great Island and North Wall use some imported oil.

If the price of oil goes down, the cost of producing electricity will fall.

With the ESB, the prices they charge are regulated, so they should reduce prices in response to falling production costs.
