Electric shower question

Hi,

Is it necessary to turn off the isolator switch(the pull cord from the ceiling) and cut power to the shower unit whenever the shower is not in use or is it ok to leave it on?

Thanks,

FT

I have an electric shower for donkey's yrs, and I've never turned off the islolator switch. Never heard you had to do this for safety, but I stand to be corrected.

Yeh, I always switch off if I remember but the one in my house has burnt out for the second time in the last 3/4 years so wondering if that is the reason...?

I remember a big argument over on boards about this. My view is that this is an isolating switch, both poles, pos and neg for safety reasons because of the damp environment and I always turn it off after use for that reason.

I have never yet burnt out a switch..... and why would it have a 4ft pull cord hanging down if it werent meant for regular use by everybody.

thats my view anyway:)

There is no need to turn it off all the time, but that would be good practice from a safety point of view. You've got other problems it they're burning out that quickly. I'd advise getting an electrician in to take a look.
