Eircom cordless phone problem

I Have an Eircom cordless phone and anybody who has one will know the sound it makes when its placed on the cradle. My problem is my phone is
repeatedly making this sound while its sitting on the cradle.

Any help on this matter would be appreciated as its especially annoying at night when the house is quiet.

I have exactly the same issue Walliams, I just assumed it was because of wear and tear over the years and I was planning to purchase a new one.

Is yours relatively new?

What sort of noise does in make while on the cradle.

clean the contacts on the phone and charger ,if this does not work
make sure the batteries are ok

My one is three years old. I thought it might be an issue with the batteries but the indicator on the phone shows them fully charged. Its difficult to describe a sound I suppose its a beep.

Would you have a habit of leaving the phone on the base when not receiving/making calls? This shortens battery life quickly with Ni-MH batteries.

Or, if you've not changed the batteries in the phone over the 3 years of use, it's quite likely that they have become exhausted anyway and need replacing.

However, before changing the batteries, I think you should do what monee suggested, cleaning the metal contacts on phone and base.
