eircom broadband vista problems

Ive used my eircom broadband for several years on old PC with XP without any probs. Recently switched to new Vista PC using all the same devices. Ive an intermittent problem where the connection fails to load either internet pages or connects to mail, even though the broadband is shown as connected. It shows it as sending but not receiving data bytes. The only solution that works is to disconnect the broadband software and reconnect. I dont think ther is any contention isues.
Has anyone out there any similar problems with Vista broadband connections?
Any suggestions welcome - excluding loading XP!

I had a similar problem with my BT voyager broadband modem, although not due to changing operating systems. I fixed the issue by installing a firmware upgrade that BT recommended on their troubleshooter website. Do you have anything similar that you can consult to see if their is a firmware update for your modem?
