I wasn't aware of this when I posted above...Apparently Eir have launched a new TV service this week based on an Android box.
That's not the case, as covered in other threads on here and in the https://www.independent.ie/business/technology/106000-eir-tv-customers-no-longer-able-to-record-bbc (media), the boxes have the capability of recording but the license holders (BBC, etc.) are restricting who can record their content. The loss of record isn’t really the channels, it’s the providers selling boxes that don’t have built in record. If they have built in record you are entitled to record and use under the copyright act.
Any of the platforms that support skipping ads do so via increased subscription charges, so be careful what you wish for.and then RTE basically 'making it hard' for providers is particularly annoying and should be stopped.
One thing that people aren't aware of is you can buy another Apple TV (I got one cheap on DoneDeal) and use it on another TV in the house. You don't have to purchase multiroom like with other suppliers as it checks your internet provider
It absolutely is the case, it literally says it in the article you linked to:That's not the case, as covered in other threads on here and in the https://www.independent.ie/business/technology/106000-eir-tv-customers-no-longer-able-to-record-bbc (media), the boxes have the capability of recording but the license holders (BBC, etc.) are restricting who can record their content.
Sorry, I wasn't clear, but it it the rights holders (BBC for the most part) and not the service providers who have made the decision to block the ability to record their shows in Ireland. This isn't Eir or Sky or any of the others making that same decision in a vacuum. It absolutely is the case, it literally says it in the article you linked to:
I am of course referring to the Eir TV Service here. I have just rechecked it, and with Virgin Media channels it is as I've said."You can skip adds in recordings on the Virgin Media channels, but you have to wait until the Live programme is over to do this." - not sure about this with a streaming box but with a 360 box with hard drive you don't have to wait.
Sometimes I find you are actually selecting the replay function with RTE and not the actual recording in progress which you can skip the ads. Maybe that's happening charlie007 with you
