Most of us are familiar with certain economic metaphors/figures of speech such as "a rental property washing its face". However, I have recently come across the expression "to lift its skirt" see here. "....Following a lengthy roadshow, which saw New Generation lift its skirts for 27 potential investors...."
I am not a prude nor the most politically correct person, however I find this expression unsettling and reminds me of Trumps "locker room boy talk", except that it is used flippantly in a national "broadsheet". Rant over.
This thread has brought back a distant memory when one freezing morning I walked into my lowly public service job and said it was a "Brass Monkeys" day on which a column of the PS (real name Colm) took offence and had me marched to my paragon-of-virtue line manager who proceeded to leave me for dead. When I explained to her what a brass monkey is, it just got worse i.e. the false perception of what I said rather than the fact.
We get it on these fora from time to time too.
