if a part time employee who usually works sat and sun in a retail chain cannot work on easter sunday because the shop closes, are they entitled to be paid anyway. my friends employer says no because they are on a contract to work 8 hours per week therefore they recieved the 8 hours over sat and evenings during the week and were just not rostered for the sunday. is this right?

If that's what the contract says and that's what happened, it sounds right to me

As far as I know if you are normally rostered to work on a particular day then if a Bank Holiday falls on that day you are entitled to be paid for it.

That is technically not correct. You are entitled to pay for a public holiday if you are normally rostered but not a bank holiday. What you are also entitled to if you are not normally rostered is one fifth of your average weeks pay for all public holidays.

I hope I am making sense.
