Dublin Door Store - Different Quality Doors

I had this thread in Consumer Rights Forum but got 0 replies so thought i'd give it a go here.

I bought a couple of solid (engineered) white oak doors from the Dublin Door store over a year ago. The frames were not standard sizes and one or two of the doors had to be cut down to fit. Because of this I could see that the doors were made from what they were suuposed to be i.e. solid wood.

In November last year a bought another of the same type of door and I went to fit over the weekend. Just like the others, this door had to be cut to fit and as a result of cutting the door I could see that the door was not made of solid wood. The door was actually wrapped and the wood used in the panels was a mixture of deal and compressed wood. I paid the exact same price for what I thought was the exact same door but it is actually different quality. I can't use this door now and I want to know if I have any rights to my money back?

I'm a bit confused here Valhalla. "Engineered" is not the same as solid wood. "Engineered" is usually made up of a sandwich of laminates running in opposing directions to prevent warping; its a kind of expensive, high-grade plywood.

If they are panelled doors, the rails (cross-members) and stiles (uprights) will be engineered and the panels may be solid wood.

The first set of doors were what I would describe as solid oak doors because they weighed a ton and when cut I could see that the inside of them was solid, but with different cuts of wood. So even after being cut they still looked good. The new door is made completely differently. The rails are made of high-grade plywood and the stiles look like deal. I presumed both could be described as engineered but just that the new ones are made of sh**e.

I have solid oak knewls and handrails but I know that they are different cuts of wood glued to make a single piece and I thought that these would be described as engineered.

well goods have to be both 'fit for purpose' and 'as described' if they are not as described then i cant imagine why you would not be able to seek compensation.

5 months on i'm still waiting for doors i ordered from Dublin Door Store after being promised a two week turnaround.

We built are house last year and got stairs and doors off a local timber frame company, who also supply doors, stairs etc. When fitting the doors they ran out of their own stock and had to get more from their supplier, dublin door store. Ordered the extra doors which took 6 months to get because dds said they didn't do them anymore, and they would have to be ordered again specially from their supplier in Indonesia, last month got the last few doors but where slightly different in that the styles on the newer doors where smaller. So now waiting on another shipment to come in. Very frustrating.


My advice would be to get on to the owner/m.d and ask him/her to give you an explanation for the delay and to find out when exactly they will have your doors otherwise you want any monies paid returned to you + you'll take your business somewhere you'll be looked after.

bottom line, your the customer, your right, it's your money, they should be working for you for the business
