I'm driving from Belfast to Tullamore next week. Google Maps suggests 3 different routes, with only 7 minutes between the estimated journey times.

N33 / N52 through Kells & Mullingar: 2h 49
N2 through Navan / Trim 2h 52
M1 / M50 / M4: 2h45

I'm not a racer when it comes to driving, so I tend to find that Google is overly optimistic on the travel time for more country type roads - has anyone any recommendations on which route is best, other than whether there are tolls or not and are the above times realistic for a non F1 driver!!

The N52 through Louth and Meath isn't great.

The N52 from Kells to Delvin is poor in many parts.

Personally - I'd go with the last option.

Are you looking for the scenic route or the fastest/easiest route. If the latter, drive as much motorway as possible.
