Hi, looking into getting the driveway changed. Not sure if we should go with a cobble lock finish or a gravel finish, can anyone advise if there is much of a price difference between the two?

I would imagine a gravel finish should be cheaper but if done with correct base underneath the only save would be labour cost of not laying cobblelock

Our driveway is deep enough for 3 or 4 cars so need to go for more economic option

thanks

Gravel would be cheaper but you could have the gravel spreading onto the footpath outside your drive and will also have wheels making dents in the gravel.

If you have dogs that use your driveway as a toilet it will also be easier to hose down cobble lock than gravel.

If you run the search option in this forum on both cobblelock and gravel driveways you will get the negatives given over the years on both.

We have cobblelock and if I had my way over it I would get the imprinted concrete instead. IMHO it is maintenance free if done well. As mentioned in previous post www.pavingexpert.com should give you some ideas.

If I answer the door once more this summer to people offering to clean the cobblelock for me I will scream. I have cleaned it myself in the past and it is a painful job. The silica sand also needs to be replaced after cleaning. You will need to buy a pressure cleaner also. If water rates come into force you bill would mount.

As mentioned by Niallers gravel is a nuisance also.
