Drain at front door blocked

Morning all,

I have a bit of a problem that I'm hoping your combined wisdom might be able to help me with! The drain outside our front door has been blocked with what looks like mud/dirt for ages now. I can't get the grid on top of the drain off because the drain pipe is right down on top of it. Tried to take the drain pipe off so as to get the grid off but my efforts appeared to be damaging the brick work and I decided to quit before I had two problems on my hands! I been at the drain with wire, I've dumped enzyme drain unblocker down it all to no avail. Every time it rains my porch is like a swamp.

Any ideas on how to unblock this? Is it safer to get someone out to take the drain pipe off rather than go at it myself so that I can then get at the drain properly?

Thanks in advance.
Percy

It sounds like the downpipe has been glued together unfortunately. Presumably the downpipe is attached to the wall with screws into rawl plugs. If so, you can unscrew the bracket, which should allow you to push the pipe to the side enough to remove the hopper grid. You should be able to screw the bracket back into the same plugs then.

Hi Baldyman,
I'm not sure about the rawl plugs to be honest. As I was unscrewing the bracket around the downpipe there was a lot of brick flaking away so I was worried about making the hole bigger and wrecking the thing altogether. I suppose I could take it off and insert rawl plugs afterwards to re-screw it into the wall?
Yeah the whole flaming thing is one big nasty pvc pipe. No give in it at all.

Do they do drain pipe slip/repair collars? If they do you could cut the pipe.

However I would just unscrew some brackets and then get the rubber gloves on.

You could always cut away the grid, I mean since the drain is full already its not doing anything to help!
