Hi

Is there any way you can claim rent allowance without your landlord knowing?

Renting from someone I know and for personal reasons do not want them knowing I'm claiming?

Sorry I thought you were referring to tax rental relief. My tenant's who receive the money from social welfare, they have a form that has to be filled out. I supply my PPS number for this, not sure how you would get it without that.

Strangely, I got a letter from revenue about a year into letting telling me that any refunds from revenue would be automatically refunded to the same account in which they paid their rent into. I had not given revenue details of this account so I presume they just sent me this to clarify that I was their landlord and that they were paying rent. (I had given my PPS number from the start). So I guess if you pay rent into a bank account your LL will know. I have to say, you are entitled to the relief so you should claim. If you're shielding a friend from the tax man you need to examine your conscience. I apologize in advance if I'm way off the mark here.

no no not shielding anyone total would be below threshhold they would have to pay tax on....more they have a big mouth and dont want it broadcast!!!

The landlord has to sign a form as well as provide PPS number, so i don't see how you'd be able to claim without them knowing.
