There seems to be a widespread suspicion abroad that the self-employed can deduct all sorts of expenses in determining their taxable income that are not available to PAYE employees. This suspicion is then used to justify the continued discriminatory treatment of the self- employed under the tax code. If there is any truth to this suspicion, then I need a new accountant! Of course, those framing the tax code, and the senior politicians signing-off on the provisions, are unlikely ever to be impacted by this discrimination.
