Spread sheet question,

Does anyone know how I can put percentages beside raw figures on a spreadsheet, i.e. is the same cell?

highlight cells
main menu click 'format'
select 'cells...'
select 'percentage' under the number tab
click ok

will that allow me to keep the raw data in the cell also

Yes. It just applies a format to it.

if the actual number in the cell is lets say 21 it is just making it 21% which is not what I want as 21 is a fraction of the overall number. Do you understand.

say for example you have 21 in cell [A1]and you want it as a % of 150:
type in cell A2: =a1/150. Then right click on cell A2 and change format to %

Ah, I thought you meant the symbol % when you said 'percentages'
So is it a formula you want then?
Concatenate them as strings, eg;
=A1 & " " & A2

What if A2 is already in use for another figure.

Add in a extra row or column: on the top toolbar click on Insert, then Rows

that worked great, one more question if you dont mind. How can I apply that to every number I have making it as quick as possible is there any other way.

Press copy on that cell, highlight the ones you want to copy it to, then paste

but on the next cell the total number I want to get a percentage of is different to in the first example, do you get me?

EXAMPLE - you want to show data in one cell and in the adjoining cell you want to show the data as a percentage of say 350

In cell A1 type in 350

In cell B3 type in 44 or whatever and in the adjoining cell C3 type in =B3/$A$1
Then click on Format Cells Percentage, which should give you 12.57%.

You can now copy and paste this formula from C3 to the cells adjoining the data cells (that is presuming you always want to use the number in A1)

then you'd put these figures into another column and reference them accordingly.

Maybe you should consider doing a spreadsheets course? These are pretty basic questions, so maybe a doing a course might be a better approach.

Yes but is there a way to actually make this a little easier rather than just put them in each time. As far as a spreadsheets couse goes, that is very helpful considering I have a piece of work on that I need to get done for Monday. By the way I appreciate your help with my actual spreadsheet problem. And if the problem is so basic wy have inot got a better answer than replace the number every time.

Its not really clear to me what you want but I have an example done out of what I think you want and if you pm me with your email address I can send it to you. You would not normally insert figures but instead insert the cell reference.

Because I don't have a complete understanding of what it is you're trying to do.

A spreadsheet course might still be a good idea for future work you might have to do.

leghorn, do you seriously think I need your advice about doing a spreadsheets course. Do you think I do not already know that? For now I need some specific advice.
