My girlfriend and 2 kids will be moving in to my house soon and so will be cancelling her lone parent allowance, she earns 95 euro from partime work every week and i take home 390 euro weekly from my job would she qualify for Job Seekers Alowance or would i qualify for Family income support as both kids are mine and we will essentially be living as a married couple.
Thanks for any help.

Chopper based on the info you have given above, either yourself or your partner could apply for FIS. FIS income limits for 2010 for a family with 2 children is currently €602.
You should follow the link below which will give you all the info you need and allow you to download an application form
http://www.citizensinformation.ie/c...amilies-and-children/family_income_supplement
With regards the Jobseekers a lot more information would be required but again check out http://www.citizensinformation.ie/c...yments/unemployed-people/jobseekers-allowance
You should also see about a medical card if you or your family do not have one as your circumstances have now changed. Just another thought if you are paying rent you may be eligible to apply for Rent Supplement or indeed if your paying a morgage you may qualify for morgage interest supplement These are both covered under SWA follow link below for more info http://www.citizensinformation.ie/c...elfare-payments/supplementary-welfare-schemes.
Its hard to raise a family on low income best of luck.
If you are paying taxes there is no harm to have a look at this to, you'd be suprised what you could save by applying for tax credit reliefs if eligible you should either ring your local tax office or pop into your local Citizens Information Centre to seek advice you can recheck 4 years I think. Some people are unaware that if they are paying rent and paying tax that they can claim tax relief on this or if they pay for their rubbish to be taken away or medical expences - every bit helps. Hope this was of some help.

thanks very much Bonzo i will definitely use some of the info you suggested i never even thought of contacting the tax office so i will ring them first thing monday, thanks again

Before you actually phone the tax office check both payslips or P60's (yours and partners) to see if any tax has been deducted
