Do I need to pay more than DIRT

I have a couple of deposit accounts from which DIRT has been deducted.

I am on the higher rate of P.A.Y.E. and am told that I need to declare the interest received to our friends in the Revenue so that they can deduct the difference between DIRT and the "marginal rate".

Can somebody tell me the method they use to deduct this.

e.g. If I have €100 on deposit and pay €21 DIRT and then tell the Revenue what do they do.

You must declare deposit interest but there is no further tax liability once DIRT at 20% has been deducted.

except that 'levies' are picked up if you are self employed - Revenue used to ignore it for PAYE (as it included the Civil Service).
