I was talked into starting an AVC about 18 months ago.

I have since spoken to work friends who said there is no need for me to do an AVC as by the time i retire i will have worked for over 40 years in this job.

I was also told that if i cancel within 2 years i will get back what I paid in.
so here are my questions

1, is there a need for me to do an avc?
and
2, if i cancel before 2 years can i get back what i put in?
3, where can i get independent advise on avc's

Re: avc

What part of the public sector do you work in?

Are you a civil servant?
part of the broader public service (guards, teachers, nurses, etc)
or perhaps you work in the broader still public sector (ESB, Bord Gais, An Post, RTE etc).

There has been much discussion here over the last year concerning the relative merits of AVC's over purchace of notional service. Do a search of the site for avc and notional and you will get plenty hits.

Who did you get the avc from? was it cornmarket or marsh?
