Dishwasher tablet dispenser drawer not opening

The tablet dispenser drawer has stopped opening.

It's an 8 year old Zanussi dishwasher, never had any problems with it before.

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on this? Would I be better using the liquid detergent or could there be a simple explanation ?

Mine hasn't opened in over a year..
I put the tablet in the bottom of machine before I start wash cycle..
(It's where it would end up anyway)..Washes same as if in drawer.
 
+1 here too! A washing machine repairman told us once to do this from when the machine was brand new and just installed. When I 'wondered out loud' if this was the best option, especially with a brand new machine, his reply was along the lines of "which one of us is the expert here?". Never did anything else other than that, ever since.
 
Thanks all. Just one question do you put the tablet in at the very beginning or wait a while - cause I know the drawer wouldn't pop open immediately, it would take 10 minutes or so?
 
I put mine in when I put the machine on (at the very begining).. Opening the door early/mid cycle might damage the machine and confuse the setting.
 
The tablet drawer in ours (Hotpoint Aquarius) broke years ago. I just throw the tablet in at the start and it works perfectly every time.

Nah... I do this all the time to chuck in stuff I invariably find lying around that wasn't put in to the machine.
