Can someone recommend a Dishwasher Repairman for South County Dublin area. It's a Siemens dishwasher that appears to have given up the ghost.

Re: Dishwasher repairman recommendation.

I don't think fixing dishwashers is economically viable (unless you can fix it yourself for free).

You say your dishwasher has given up the ghost...

You can buy a new Zanussi dishwasher in DID electric for €299. I'm sure you can buy one for less than that if you shop around. A new dishwasher will come with a years warranty at least.

Getting a man or woman to drive around to repair your existing dishwasher will cost a good bit for Parts and Labour, and there will be VAT thrown on.

And when it's fixed, will it be as good as a new dishwasher ?
I don't think so.

For a number of years, I've had the attitude regarding electrical appliances that when its broken (outside warranty), and I can' fix it myself, I order a new one.

Electrical appliances are cheaper than they've ever been, and I think getting repair men or women is not economically viable most of the time.

You could try a man who was recently recommended to me.
Ken Coogan 0868297691.

If your machine has cast off its mortal coils he could get a new machine for you and install it for you.

Try BSH in Ballymount, Walkinstown. They are official Neff repairers (but I think they also service Siemens and Bosch domestic appliances).

Have used them a number of times, good service, reliable call outs and all work comes with 6 months warranty.

You could try giving Paul Harding a call to see if he can help. He is based in Dundrum, is excellent and no. is 01-4933778.

Thanks for the recommendations. Unfortunately when I knew no better I purchased integrated white goods for my kitchen. Never again. For me to get free standing white goods at this point in time would require remodelling of my kitchen....Incidentally does anyone know a good carpenter or kitchen guy that might be able to repaint kitchen presses or remodel a kitchen worktop. In otherwords freshen up an existing kitchen?

Have a read through and you may get some advice.

The guy I recommended above used to have policy of only charging if he could do a repair so he may be an option. Not sure if this still applies but you could give him a ring to confirm.

This logic might have relevance for budget appliances however some might take issue with the frivolous 'throw away' consequences. Environmentally speaking it is not sustainable and for most consumers doing their own repairs is not viable.

One can pay in excess of € 600 + for a dishwasher and like most things you get what you pay for. Some notable German brands have reputations built on quality and reliablity. That siad things can break down (usually wera and tear but sometimes accidental damage). For owners of more expensive and better quality appliances, use professional repairers is most certainly a viable option. And as previously stated a 6 month warranty on repair work would certainly be a comfort and peace of mind for most.

We should encourage consumers to be more prudent when selecting goods and not only look at the price tag. Its about affordability yes, but also about managing our needs within a wider framework and being more conscientious and responsible consumers. Sorry for rant!
